This forum posts is centered around a governance proposal to increase the maximum block size and square size to 8MB (8,388,608 bytes) and 128 respectively.
The Ginger Upgrade (specifically releases v3.x and v0.20.x for the consensus and DA) introduces a set of performance improvements (i.e. BBR congestion control and shwap) that after thorough testing proves that the network can not only halve the finality time (to 6 seconds) but also increase the capacity from 2MB to 8MB.
A governance proposal has already been submitted and passed on the Arabica testnet, which is now running with the increased capacity. It is currently planned that proposals on Mocha and Celestia Mainnet will be submitted in January 2025 to modify:
