Proposing two new categories

Context

The core values of Celestia’s social layer clearly state that “Off-chain governance trumps token-holder governance” and also the node software is such that the surface for on-chain governance is really minimal.

Here are the parameters that can currently changed via on-chain governance (see last column): celestia-app/specs/src/parameters_v3.md at v3.0.2 · celestiaorg/celestia-app · GitHub

Also, community pool spend proposals are decided on-chain.

Currently, both these kind of proposals are discussed in this forum before they make it on-chain (or they don’t because of a lack of community interest). Some are posted and discussed in the General category (e.g. Community Pool Proposal: Help fund audits of IBC middleware or Community Tax increase temperature check) and some are posted on the community category (e.g. Protocol Owned Liquidity Swap Proposal for Celestia Community Pool (TIA)).

Proposal

I propose to introduce two new top-level categories to this forum:

  1. parameter updates – where changes to parameters are discussed (except for community pool related parameters)
  2. community pool – where anything related to the community pool is discussed (params, proposals)

Great idea. I think a good example for the “parameter updates” category would be this recent post by @cmwaters: Increase block capacity to 8MB

Alternatively, we can put “community pool” under the existing “Community” category (instead of top-level).

Makes sense to me, cc @Rok

Apologies for the delay. I didn’t get a notification from this category. I’ve added both as subcategories under the existing Community category and moved the relevant posts accordingly.

If you’d still prefer them as separate top-level categories, we can do that too. Alternatively, we could create a new parent category, something like Governance Discussions or Decentralized Governance, and structure it as

Governance
├── Parameter Updates
└── Community Pool
